GDR Posters: 1949-1989
The poster for Stalin’s 70th birthday in 1949. The text translates as: “The leader and teacher of humanity in the fight for peace, democracy, and socialism.”
The poster for Stalin’s 73rd birthday in 1952. The text translates as: “Long live the standard bearer of peace. The best friend of the German people.”
This poster from 1952 urges learning about the Soviet Union. The caption: “Studied during the second FDJ school year: the priceless experiences of Soviet people in building communism.” The FDJ was the “Free German Youth,” the GDR’s organization for the young.
The V. Party Congress of the East German Communist Party (the SED) was held in 1958. The caption: “Socialism is winning.”
